STEP BY STEP

A DIY tractor seat stool is a unique twist on the traditional bar stool. Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to make a tractor seat stool for your home.
grinding a piece of metal

STEP ONE:

Before you start welding, it’s important to prep your base materials to get a nice clean weld. Remove any contaminants such as paint, dirt and rust from your base materials using an angle grinder.
holding a coil up to a bar stock plate

STEP TWO:

Place the bar stock plate on top of the coil to test the fit-up. If the top plate is not exactly centered on the coil, offset the drill hole so that it is at the center of the coil. Mark the center point, then drill a hole in the top plate. This is where you’ll fit the bolt in step 7.
measuring a tractor disc

STEP THREE:

Measure the coil on the end where you’ll be welding it to the tractor disc. Center and mark the measurement of the coil on the tractor disc. Then, move the tape measure in a perpendicular direction and mark it again, making four marks total, ensuring your coil will be completely centered on the tractor disc.

STEP FOUR:

Place one end of the coil on the tractor disc and make sure it’s centered using the marks you made in step 3. Tack weld the coil to the tractor disc using the MIG process on your multiprocess welder.

STEP FIVE:

Take the bar stock plate and set it on top of the other end of the coil. Line it up on each side, keeping your drilled hole in the center, and tack weld in place.

STEP SIX:

Once you are done tacking, it's time to weld everything together using DC TIG on your multiprocess welder. TIG weld the tractor disc to one end of the coil and then the bar stock plate to the other end of the coil.

STEP SEVEN:

When everything is welded up, mount the seat to the bar stock plate using the bolt. Ensure the bolt is securely tightened.

STEP EIGHT:

And your bar stool is finished! Time to show it off to friends and family.
